Here is our story. My husband and I have six children. I was 40 when I had our youngest. We had been practicing NFP and contracepting over the years before we had children and in between births. We knew what was right but did not have the will to sacrifice. When I became pregnant at 40, we let fear take over . My husband had a vasectomy. When we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary I asked for my husband to get a reversal but we thought it was too expensive so I did not push the idea I started to read the theology of the body and my eyes were opened to the gift of our fertility. It was five years later that the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart to ask a Natural Family Planning instructor about a reversal for my husband. She suggested praying a novena to St. Joseph. We prayed together to turn his heart to accept the reversal. He went to the doctor with his objection that it would be hard for his health but the doctor said that he should do it if I wanted him to! Then there was the money objection. I called One More Soul, who told us of a doctor who did reversals only and the cost was affordable. Also the surgery was outpatient. However the miracle was that my husband agreed to the reversal. The counselors at One more soul also prayed and encouraged me as his heart changed. What a miracle! We were both 52, not the usual reversal couple. The reason for the reversal was not to have another child but to make us whole again. I know the Church does not require the reversal , but in our case I did not have peace until the reversal. Thanks be to God for our happy 32year marriage. I want to encourage any older couples to make the sacrifice and pray for the grace to be whole again.
